Scripture Study
"The Sacred Synod forcefully and specifically exhorts all the Christian faithful, espcially those who live the religious life, to learn 'the surpassing knowledge of Jesus Christ (Philp 3:8) by frequent reading of the divine Scriptures. 'Ignorance of Scriptures is ignornace of Christ' (St Jerome). Therefore, let them go gladly to the sacred text itself, whether in the sacred liturgy, which is full of the divine words, or in devout reading, or in such suitable exercises and various other helps which... are happily spreading everywhere in our day." (Vatican II, Dei Verbum, 25)
Those who seek to enter into a deeper knowledge of the Bible are often overwhelmed by the amount of material available to them. Often it is hard to know where to start! This page is intended to be such a starting point. Below are a few notes and helps to stimulate reading of the Scriptures, as well as podcasts and other resources to help introduce themes in the Scriptures.
Sacred Scripture is everyone's book - and in it we encounter the story of God's love for the world and for His People. We offere these notes as a means of helping you draw as much benefit as you can from carrying out the dream of the Second Vatican Council that we might "go gladly to the sacred text"!
